Standard full-game basketball moneylines usually price two teams because tied regulation scores proceed to overtime. Regulation-only and some two-leg markets can settle differently, so check whether overtime counts. Spreads handicap the scoring margin, while totals price the teams' combined points. Basketball's many possessions generally reduce the role of a single random event, but the offered odds, not the sport alone, set the probability you must beat.

More possessions can make team strength show up more consistently, but the price already reflects that. A 1.30 basketball favourite still needs to win more than 76.9% of the time to break even, exactly like 1.30 in another sport. Look instead for information the market may have priced slowly: rest and back-to-backs, travel, and player availability. Treat blowout margins carefully too, because late-game rotations can make the final score less informative than the competitive possessions that produced it.
